Social Care Leader / Senior Residential Care Worker
About the Role
To work as part of a team to provide a safe, caring environment for resident young people, with the primary aim of providing the intervention necessary to address the issues that they may be struggling with.
The Social Care Leader (SCL) or Senior Residential Care Worker (SRCW) works as part of the team providing direct care to young people, while carrying additional responsibility for shift leadership, supervision of staff and students, and decision making in the absence of the Deputy Manager or Centre Manager.
You will retain an integral practice role, working directly with young people, alongside the administrative and supervisory duties of the post. This is a role for an experienced residential care practitioner ready to step up into responsibility for the centre.

Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the development and implementation of Care and Placement Plans, and record them appropriately
- Promote the rights, responsibilities and the physical, emotional, social and religious welfare of each young person
- Encourage attendance at school, training centres, and medical and clinical appointments
- Liaise with parents, family, general services and other agencies, and attend meetings on behalf of the young person
- Engage in age appropriate play and activities, and in physical intervention in line with local policies
- Prepare well balanced meals with the young people and support home management, including the household budget and upkeep
- Supervise Social Care Workers, Residential Care Workers and students under the direction of the Deputy Manager or Centre Manager
- Prepare reports for and take part in professional meetings, including case management and strategy meetings
- Take responsibility for decision making on shift, including overall responsibility for the centre in the absence of the Deputy Manager or Centre Manager
- Provide cover for the Deputy Manager as required, and be part of the team providing on call cover
- Report and record all incidents, however minor, and make regular written and verbal reports to the Centre Manager
- Keep up to date with current legislation and professional childcare knowledge, and attend regular supervision
Requirements
- 3 years of experience working in Children's Residential Centres
- A Bachelor (Ordinary or Honours) degree, MA or MSc in a relevant field, for example QQI Level 8 Psychology, QQI Level 7 Social Science or Social Studies, Youth and Community, Family Support, Disability Studies or Applied Behavioural Analysis
- Professional Practice Qualification in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy, Counselling, Psychotherapy or Addiction Counselling also considered
- Professional Qualification in Teaching (not TEFL) or Nursing Studies, BA in Applied Policing or Higher Certificate in Custodial Care also considered
- QQI Level 7 in Early Years Care where the centre caters for children under 12 years
- Full, clean driver's licence valid in Ireland
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of the National Standards for Children's Residential Centres and of Children First
- Ability to work with young people and with challenging behaviour
- A genuine passion for supporting young people who have experienced trauma
