Consultant Psychiatrists, ADHD and Autism Assessment (Adult and Child)
About the Role
A growing multidisciplinary medical practice in South West Co. Dublin, currently assessing over 120 new patients a month across its adult and child ADHD and autism services. The assessment model has been running successfully for around 18 months and the consultant team is now being expanded to meet demand.
Roles available: 2 to 3 Consultant Psychiatrists with experience in adult ADHD and autism assessment, 2 to 3 Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists with experience in ADHD and autism assessment, and appropriately qualified autism specialists trained in ADOS 2 and ADI R to support the child and adolescent autism pathway. Consultants can take adult work only, child and adolescent work only, or both, in line with their specialist registration and experience.
Before each appointment the clinical and admin teams gather histories, screening questionnaires (DIVA 5, ASRS, Conners 4, RAADS R, SRS 2 where appropriate), school and collateral reports, GP medical reviews, observations, and ECG and bloods where indicated. That leaves you free to focus on specialist assessment, diagnostic formulation, treatment planning and reporting.
Initial appointment allocations are 30 minutes for adult assessments and 60 minutes for child and adolescent assessments. These are planning estimates, not fixed limits. Consultants retain full clinical independence over time, additional appointments, diagnostic instruments and investigations. Working arrangements are flexible, with regular weekly sessions, designated assessment days and remote consultations where clinically appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the prepared clinical information and conduct the specialist assessment
- Establish a diagnosis where clinically supported, identifying differentials and comorbidities
- Prepare a comprehensive diagnostic report, ordinarily within 1 to 2 weeks
- Recommend treatment and management, assessing prescribing risks and contraindications
- Issue an initial prescription where clinically appropriate and legally permitted
- Identify necessary monitoring and specialist follow up
Requirements
- Consultant psychiatrists: current Irish Medical Council registration with specialist registration
- Autism specialists: appropriate registration, qualifications and ADOS 2 and ADI R training
- Relevant experience in adult or child and adolescent ADHD and autism assessment
- Own professional indemnity covering private clinical work in Ireland, confirmed in writing before starting
- Signed consultant services agreement and compliance with governance, safeguarding and data protection requirements
Benefits
- €175 per completed adult ADHD or autism assessment
- €350 per completed child and adolescent ADHD or autism assessment
- ADOS 2 or ADI R administration, complex cases and extra follow up paid separately
- Fully prepared assessments with GP, admin and practice management support
- Flexible weekly sessions or assessment days, clinic and remote
- Substantial, consistent workload of over 120 new patients a month
